Hedgebrook is a global community of women writers and people who seek extraordinary books, poetry, plays, films and music by women. A literary nonprofit, our mission is to support visionary women writers whose stories and ideas shape our culture now and for generations to come. We offer writing residencies, Radical Craft Retreats, and convenings at our retreat on Whidbey Island, and public programs that connect writers with readers and audiences around the world.


2024 Hedgebrook Playwrights Showcase

A public event for those who love theater!

Come celebrate with us as we get an intimate look into the playwriting process with craft conversations, table readings, and a discussion about the future of theater in our changing world. A reception will follow to continue the conversation and enjoy refreshments provided by our chefs.

Built on the foundations of our historical Playwrights Festival, this showcase will take place over two days in two locations (Whidbey Island and Seattle), and honor over 25 years of celebrating and supporting women-identified playwrights. This year's selections include:
